Posted on

There is an epic war taking place in the world right now, waged between Apple, Google and Microsoft.  Billions of dollars have been spent with entire industries and companies at stake.  This is the battlefield and the units are moving!

Microsoft, Google and Apple are companies which are decades old. They are the established titans of the industry.

Google, Microsoft and Apple are forever locked in a three-way struggle for dominance in various industries – from hardware to computer to mobile phones to application to entertainment to search engines to an never-ending list.

Today, Microsoft dominates the application and operating system industry, Google dominates Internet search while Apple owns media and entertainment devices, and high-end hardware.  So… How did the Clash of the Titans came into place?

During the 1990s era, “hegemony” was synonymous with “Microsoft”; Microsoft invaded and dominated everything.  Wherever computing went, Microsoft was there.  It was Microsoft that revolutionized computer operating systems with their Microsoft Windows and improved computer productivity applications with Microsoft Office.

However, it was Apple which conquered and revolutionized music with its iPod and mobile phones with its iPhone.  However, with death of Steve Job, the driving force and genius of Apple, there has been much speculation that Apple will lose its ways and go into the grave with its founder.

It was before the success of iPhone that Apple and Google were once “friends”.  In the 2007 launch of iPhone, Google gave Apple their search, mail and maps, while Apple gave Google a spot on their new device.  Apple incorporated YouTube into their iPhone and it was Google that made YouTube to work well with QuickTime.  This moved videos to the h.264 standard and Apple was able to avoid using Flash.  Google even helped to optimize their web applications for the iPhone.

However, the relationship started to turn sour when iPhone took to the streets in millions.  Apple’s iPhone was a success and Google became jealous. Thus, Google presented their first android phone, T-Mobile G1 (aka The HTC Dream), in September 2008.

Google has become the top search engine and arguably the most significant company on the web.  It is like a virus, spreading at the speed of light – from the web search to books, mobile phones, videos and operating systems.

So.. Who will emerge victorious in this bloody war between the giants? Only time will tell.
